Come to Me, all of you who are weary and find life burdensome, I will refresh you. Take My yoke on your shoulders and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart. You shall find rest because My yoke is easy and My burden light. Matthew 11:28-30
Where do you see Christ in this picture above? Sit with this question for a minute.
How can you say no to this invitation Jesus extends to us in Matthew. Lets say you were sitting at home checking your emails during this Christmas season. Three “Evites” come up. One from Sue to join them at their open house next week for food and drinks. The second one is from the Smiths, the big “holiday party” that allows you to rub elbows with all the “right” people. The 3rd email is from Jesus. His Evite asks us to be still and silent. To join Him in conversation and rest. What Evite gets you excited? What Evite will you RSVP and comment: “Looking forward to this so much”?
During this busy season of Christmas it is easy to get weary and carry many burdens. It is up to you to decide what yoke you are putting on and what Evite you are going to say YES to.
This Gospel passage has always brought me comfort, a happy heart. During my courting stages with Jesus as we forged a relationship, Jesus was always the guy holding the handles of the yoke guiding and directing. As a trusting relationship was finally formed, I would look back and not see Jesus holding the handles of the yoke. He was next to me wearing the same yoke providing me with rest and a humble heart.
